Happy Day!

Yesterday and Today

Yesterday

A down day, but nothing that bad. The market opened down n spent much of the day own 50 Dow points (10 E-mini), but cut the losses in half by the close. The SPX closed above 2,000.

Today

Several items are of concern to me going forward:

  • Goldman Sacks is having many of their analysts claim that the bull market can continue another 2-3 years. Even if that is true, this is their typical behavior and tone when selling large amounts of product. They tell everyone to BUY so there is a liquid market for them to SELL.

  • We have had 14 days in a row with less than a 1/2% move in the market on any given day. Months ago I was doing the 1% daily move count with us exceeding 50 days in a row. Now I have to do a 1/2% move count. This can be a signal that we are at a point of equilibrium where new buyers are being offset by the “big boys” who have owned the whole time and are looking to get out.

  • The ECB announced that it has little tools left to fight any adverse situation in the markets. I think the FED is in the same boat, but has not been honest/crazy enough to spark a panic and announce it.

  • Geo-politically speaking the markets don’t always react to bad news until the last second. Just go back to WWI and WWII and look. The markets didn’t sell off until a couple of days of us going into WWI. The opposite can be true too. We sold off for a year before going into the Gulf the first time. Right now we are discounting any escalation by Russia, which may feel backed into a corner.

  • To a lesser extent AAPL may be an issue. Almost every time after the company brings out a new phone at a premier, despite the long lines, the stock falls more than 5%.

But the trend is the trend, an often a friend, until it isn’t.

Too True To Be Funny

Look…we know he lies, but if he calls it ISIL why do they and the rest of the world call themselves ISIS. Think about it…there is a reason.
